Millenials aren’t afraid of expressing themselves, and that bravery extends to their choice of automobiles. A new study highlights some rather interesting vehicle choices by those between the ages of 18 and 34 during the first half of 2015.
For example, the Pontiac Aztek, once described as looking like something akin to an angry kitchen appliance, seems to be a favorite of Millenials. A little more than 25% of its buyers come from the Millennial generation. Some speculate that its currently popularity is due to the “Breaking Bad” effect, having been the vehicle of choice of Bryan Cranston’s character Walter White. But whatever the reasons, Millennials have been snatching up this awkward-looking crossover for the last few years. (The Aztek even held the top spot of Millennial favorite in 2010.)
Another Millennial favorite is the Dodge Magnum. Launched in 2005 as a re-imagination of the much-maligned family wagon, the Magnum was long, low, and powerful, with its top variant—the SRT8—topping out at 425 hp. Despite its styling nuances, versatility and on-road punch, the Magnum was discontinued in 2008. Nevertheless, it tops the current list of Millennial purchases at 27.6%, followed closely by the Chrysler Pacifica at 27.3%.
Regional variations do exist with Millennial purchases. For example, while the aforementioned Dodge Magnum is most popular in Detroit and Chicago, the Saturn Outlook is a favorite in Dallas and Atlanta, while the Pontiac Torrent is the choice in Houston and Phoenix.
